What's in a Serving of LiveRestore
The question we get most before someone buys is simple: what's actually in it? Here are the numbers for one serving of LiveRestore, where they come from, and what each nutrient does in your body.
The numbers, per 4 capsules
One serving is 4 capsules, or 3,000 mg of freeze dried beef liver. That comes from about 10 g of fresh liver. Fresh liver is about 71% water, and freeze drying takes out the water and keeps the liver.
| Nutrient | Amount | Daily Value |
|---|---|---|
| Vitamin B12 | 6.1 µg | 254% |
| Copper | 1.0 mg | 111% |
| Vitamin A, as retinol | 510 µg RAE | 57% |
| Riboflavin (B2) | 0.28 mg | 22% |
| Pantothenic acid (B5) | 0.74 mg | 15% |
| Niacin (B3) | 1.4 mg | 8% |
| Folate | 30 µg DFE | 7% |
| Selenium | 4.1 µg | 7% |
| Vitamin B6 | 0.11 mg | 7% |
| Choline | 34 mg | 6% |
| Zinc | 0.41 mg | 4% |
| Phosphorus | 40 mg | 3% |
| Iron | 0.5 mg | 3% |
| Protein | 2.1 g |
These are upper estimates from USDA FoodData Central values for raw beef liver (FDC 169451). They assume the powder is fully dried and nothing is lost in drying, and they vary by batch. Daily Values use current FDA and Health Canada values.
Why "up to," and why estimates?
Liver is a food, not a lab mix, so no two livers are exactly alike. What a cow eats and the time of year both change the numbers a little.
Every batch of LiveRestore is lab tested for heavy metals and microbials, and the results are on the product page. Those tests don't measure vitamins, so we use USDA's numbers for beef liver and tell you that's what they are. We'd rather give you an honest estimate than a precise looking number we can't stand behind.
Copper: the one most people miss
A serving gives you up to 1.0 mg of copper, 111% of the Daily Value. Very few foods come close.
- Energy. Copper powers the last step of energy production inside your cells, where oxygen gets turned into usable energy.
- Iron. Your body needs copper to move iron out of storage and into the places that use it.
- Connective tissue. The enzyme that links collagen and elastin together runs on copper.
Vitamin A, the ready to use kind
Liver stores vitamin A as retinol, the form your body can use right away. The beta carotene in carrots and greens has to be converted first, and many people convert it poorly. A serving of LiveRestore has up to 510 µg, 57% of the Daily Value.
- Works alongside copper to mobilize iron.
- Helps keep the linings of your gut and airways intact.
- Supports normal immune function.
- Helps regulate how skin cells grow and renew.
For adults, the upper limit for vitamin A as retinol is 3,000 µg a day. A serving of LiveRestore is up to 510 µg. If you also take cod liver oil or another vitamin A supplement, add them together.
Vitamin B12
Up to 6.1 µg a serving, 254% of the Daily Value. Your body needs B12 to make red blood cells and DNA and to keep your nerves healthy. It comes almost only from animal foods. Your body takes what it needs from food and your liver stores some for later, which is part of why the effects of a food like liver build over weeks rather than days.
The B vitamins that turn food into energy
Riboflavin (B2, up to 22% of the Daily Value) is what your cells use to turn food into energy. Pantothenic acid (B5, up to 15%) is part of coenzyme A, which your body needs to burn fats and carbohydrates. Liver also brings smaller amounts of niacin, folate, B6, selenium and choline, all in the same bite.
Wait, only 0.5 mg of iron?
Yes, and that surprises people. Liver has a reputation as an iron food, but a serving of LiveRestore has only about 3% of the Daily Value.
We think that's the right way to look at it. Many people who feel low in iron have the iron already. It's just stuck in storage, because they're short on the copper and vitamin A that move it. Liver brings exactly those, which is why it works as a food rather than as one more iron pill.
What it pairs well with
- Acerola Cherry. Whole food vitamin C helps you absorb iron and take it into your cells, so it finishes the job copper and vitamin A start.
- Organyze, instead of LiveRestore. If you want more than liver, Organyze adds heart, kidney, spleen and pancreas. It already includes liver, so you don't need both.
Not sure how to take it? Our guide on how to take beef liver and organ capsules covers how many, when, and with food or without.
What's in the capsule
Only grass fed and finished beef liver from Argentina, freeze dried and not defatted, in a bovine gelatin capsule. No fillers, flow agents or additives. A bottle has 120 capsules, so it lasts 30 days.
